You’re always in a relationship with somebody

When you think of it – you always build some kind of a relationship with somebody – your parents, siblings, friends, coworkers, boss, or even clients.

A relationship doesn’t have to be sexual to be called a relationship. And I object to the trajectory that only being in a romantic relationship teaches you “relationship lessons.”

Being single teaches you to set up boundaries, learn to communicate effectively, make choices and life-defying decisions, compromise, and put someone’s needs before ours. You don’t have to be coupled to experience that.

We’re never truly single, we all are in a relationship with each other, teaching each other how to communicate again. I do feel that we need to find a new language, and willingness, to do that.
